VISION

"To facilitate community change for a sustainable world."

AIMS
1. Promote the principles and methodologies of environmental / sustainability education in relation to the conservation of resources and minimization of waste.
2. Encourage strategic approaches and consistent messages for waste, litter, stormwater and related environmental education programs and resources.
3. Provide support, networking, professional development and advocacy for our members.
4. Encourage and support the development of local and regional waste and resource education networks in Victoria.

WE ARE AWARE
The Association for Waste and Resource Education (AWARE) is the peak professional, non-profit, association for environmental educators working in the fields of waste and resource education based in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

AWARE members are committed to promoting environmental sustainability and facilitating community change.
 
AWARE provides peer support, professional development and networking opportunities for waste and resource educators from diverse backgrounds, such as:
• Waste, Litter & Stormwater Education Officers in Local Government
• Regional Waste Management Group Education Officers
• Waste Management & Environmental Planners
• Environment Officers in Industry
• Waste & Environment Consultants
• Teachers and
• Communications Staff.

In 1996 a workshop of waste professionals highlighted the need for a professional organisation to complement the increased number of recycling programs in Victoria. The group was incorporated in 1997 and currently has a membership of over 70 educators. AWARE is managed by an Executive Committee that is elected annually by members.

More recently as roles have changed, so too has our membership. Many more people are working in the areas of litter, stormwater, water and energy conservation and sustainability education.

AWARE continues to adapt to reflect the needs of our members and seeks to provide leading edge support and information for these fields.

There are similar AWARE networks in other parts of Australia including Queensland, NSW and the ACT. AWARE Victoria is working co-operatively with these groups to encourage and support educators nationally. For more information visit: www.aware.asn.au.
