In
1996 a workshop of waste professionals highlighted the need for
a professional organisation to complement the increased number of
recycling programs in Victoria. The group was incorporated in 1997
and currently has a membership of over 70 educators. AWARE is managed
by an Executive Committee that is elected annually by members.
More
recently as roles have changed, so too has our membership. Many
more people are working in the areas of litter, stormwater, water
and energy conservation and sustainability education.
AWARE
continues to adapt to reflect the needs of our members and seeks
to provide leading edge support and information for these fields.
There
are similar AWARE networks in other parts of Australia including
Queensland, NSW and the ACT. AWARE Victoria is working co-operatively
with these groups to encourage and support educators nationally.
